Introduction: Setting the Scene
What is the number one complaint of people when they know that they need to get ready for the Christmas and holiday season? They often complain about the stress, the worry, the money and all that goes into making your Christmas and holiday season what it is. After all, go into a crowded department store during the Christmas and holiday season and the crowds and anxiety are enough to make anyone want to run for the hills! So, how can you survive, while still enjoying your holiday season? We have a few tips that are meant to help you do just that!
- Have a clear picture of what type of Christmas you want. Believe it or not, when we picture what type of holiday we want, we can make it happen by choosing to do things that will lead us to this vision.
- Set boundaries — know what you can do, are willing to do, and what you don’t want to do and learn to say no.
- Avoid the conflict that the family may have. You can choose not to engage in any family drama that may be happening
- Only focus on those things that you can control. You can only control your own thoughts and actions.
- What is your role? Know what this is to make your Christmas and holiday season more enjoyable.
- Learn to say no to things that people may ask you. There is no reason to feel guilty if you do not want to do something.
- Learn to stay away from things that may make you feel bad about how you are handling your Christmas and holiday season. A prime example of this: social media! Full of tons of pictures and comments about how great the lives of your “friends” are can make you feel worse.
- Have a budget and do not go above this budget!
- Remember that sugar may taste good but it is not the best thing for you. Plus, the more sugar you ingest, the more likely you will feel more anxious.
- Try to get plenty of rest and do what you can to stay healthy.
- Protect the time that you have to yourself and learn to keep it private.
- Make the connections with your family and friends the number one thing this season rather than the hottest present on the market.
- Ask questions to people that you only see during the Christmas and holiday season to learn more about them. Learn more about them on a deeper level than just simply asking, “how are you doing?”
Conclusion:
Overall, surviving the season is not something that is impossible. You do have the ability to not only survive, but to thrive this Christmas and holiday season… you just have to learn how to limit yourself and focus on the actual season rather than the shopping and all that goes with trying to make your Christmas perfect. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder — so feel no pressure about making it perfect, just make it your kind of perfect.
